Prey is a fishing word that can be used both as a verb and a noun.
1. To "prey" upon another creature means to rely upon it as a source of food...in a Predator prey relationship. Larger fish prey upon smaller fish and upon various Invertebrates.
2. The "prey", in a predator prey relationship, is the species preyed upon by predators. A bass is a predator. Small fish are its prey.
