Cichlids comprise a very large group of perciform fish, of all sizes and from all over the world. There are almost 1500 identified species and it has been estimated there are probably several hundred more that have not yet been classified.
Some of the more common members of this group are popular aquarium species...like Oscars, Angelfish and discos. Anglers prize several species of cichlids, such as the Tilapia and Peacock Bass. Actually, oscars can grow to respectable sizes and wherever they have been introduced into warm water environments...like the canals of southern Florida...they get large and are great sport for anglers.
