Grippers
Personal tools
From Fishing Words
Grippers are tools used to help anglers grip and control fish.
1. Some are designed to grip around the bodies of smaller fish...to prevent being cut by sharp gill covers or getting stuck by spiny fish. They also help prevent removal of beneficial fish Slime from the fish, if you plan to release them.
2. Lip grippers are spring loaded contraptions that clamp on to the lower lip of a fish. These are vital for preventing injury to both fish and fisherman...especially when the fish has nasty teeth. They also help when you want to deep the fish in the water for hook removal before release...without having to use a net.
3. Tailing tools are usually a sliding loop arrangement, designed to snug up around the fleshy part of the tail, ahead of the tail fin, after a loop is pulled over the tail.
