Back-Wind: When using a spinning reel, disengaging the anti-reverse mechanism to allow you to wind the reel handle backwards. Some anglers prefer to use this system to release line to surging fish, rather than letting them take line against the drag.
While this system works well for smaller fish, or for fish that only make short surges, it is impractical for fighting large fish that make long sustained runs.
