Arches
Personal tools
From Fishing Words
Arches are the "inverted V" marks seen on some sonar units...depending upon the display mode chosen by the user. The size and thickness of the arch can help define the size of the fish indicated by the mark. The size is determined by the thickness of the fish, and more specifically, the size of the air bladder within the fish. Having your sonar set to display these marks is generally considered to be more accurate than displaying the little "fishy icons". The latter setting is more prone to "false readings"...for non-fish targets...like bubbles, floating debris, underwater branches, etc.
To many anglers, ARCHES also means the large rock structure at the harbor at Cabo San Lucas at the end of Baja California.
