Alligators can be hooked...accidentally or on purpose...while fishing. They will take baits and lures being fished for other species. However, where legal (or not), some purposely soak baits on heavy gear specifically targeting gators. If you are fishing in waters known to have alligators, you should always be watchful. Small ones are usually more timid and will not come close, but large specimens can be aggressive and dangerous.
